NetSuite ERP Consulting Services: What They Include and How to Choose a Partner

By Louis Balla, CRO, Nuage Updated October 2026

NetSuite ERP consulting services are outside expert help with NetSuite, from the first implementation through the changes a business needs for years after go-live. Companies hire a NetSuite consulting partner for a defined project, such as going live or adding a module, or keep one on for ongoing support from a team that knows their account.

What are NetSuite ERP consulting services?

A NetSuite consultant works on how your business runs inside NetSuite. Some engagements are projects with a start and end date, such as an implementation or a new integration. Others are ongoing: a team takes requests from staff across the business and changes the account as the business changes.

Consulting covers the work on both sides of go-live. Our NetSuite ERP implementation guide covers the implementation project itself. This guide is about choosing the services and the partner, including the work that continues once you are live.

What do NetSuite consulting services include?

Most NetSuite consulting partners offer some mix of the services below. The right column is a guide to when companies usually ask for each one.

Service What it covers When companies usually need it
Implementation Configuring NetSuite for your processes, moving data in and taking the business live Moving off an older accounting or ERP system
Optimization Reviewing how the account is used today and changing configuration, workflows and reports to match how the business runs now After go-live, as processes and people change
Integration Connecting NetSuite with the systems you keep, such as CRM, e-commerce and warehouse tools Adding or replacing a connected system
Customization Building scripts and automated workflows with NetSuite’s SuiteCloud tools, such as SuiteScript and SuiteFlow When a process needs logic beyond standard configuration
Data migration Cleaning records and moving them from legacy systems into NetSuite During implementation, or when consolidating systems after an acquisition
Training and support Teaching each role its tasks and answering requests after launch At go-live, and whenever roles or processes change
Health check An assessment of how the account is set up, with a prioritized list of changes Before an audit or a new phase of work

NetSuite optimization consulting after go-live

Once an account is live, most of the requests our team handles are about changing how NetSuite is set up and how the process around it runs. Across 3,241 client requests our team classified by root cause, 37.6% came down to configuration and 25.1% to business-process design, while 5.3% were a training gap.

For a buyer, that changes what to look for in ongoing support. A team that can change configuration and redesign a process with your finance staff will resolve more of your requests than one that mainly offers training. If your account has slowed down as data and users have grown, our guide to improving NetSuite performance covers the most common causes.

How to choose the best NetSuite consulting services

Start with the type of provider, then compare the firms that remain on their record and on the people who would work on your account.

Provider type Strengths What to confirm
Specialist NetSuite partner Works mainly in NetSuite, and many offer both projects and ongoing managed services Delivery experience in your industry, and who staffs your account after the project
Multi-ERP consulting firm Covers several ERP platforms and wider business consulting Which people on the team have NetSuite delivery experience
Independent consultant Direct access to one experienced person Cover for absences, and for skills outside that person’s area
In-house NetSuite administrator Daily knowledge of your business and your people Who handles scripting and integration work

Many companies combine two of these, such as an in-house administrator backed by a partner for larger work. For what sets the budget on a new project, see our NetSuite implementation cost guide, and for partner programs and implementation selection, see our guide to NetSuite ERP implementation partners.

Questions to ask, by role

Each person on your selection team will care about different evidence.

  • Controller or CFO: ask for references at companies of your size and industry, and speak to the finance lead at each one about how close and reporting work was scoped.
  • IT lead: ask how the partner sets up user roles and the credentials each integration runs under, and what it checks when it takes over an account that is already live.
  • NetSuite administrator: ask who handles requests between projects and how they are tracked. Then ask how each NetSuite release is tested in a sandbox before it reaches production.

Check independent reviews

Verified reviews on an independent site such as Clutch show how a firm works with companies like yours. As an example of what reviews can tell you: Nuage holds a 4.9 out of 5 average across 14 verified Clutch reviews, and Clutch named Nuage a 2026 Top NetSuite Company in California. A fruit juice company wrote that its accounting team now closes monthly financials within two weeks after a configuration review and new workflows. A VP of Finance pointed to the number of Nuage teammates available to help.

How Nuage approaches NetSuite consulting

In our own resolved client requests, access and permission changes closed at a median of 11.8 days, while net-new builds took a median of 63 days. Work that touched an integration or previously delivered custom code took roughly twice as long as a configuration change, so we pin down one owner and any outside dependency before scoping.

Once a request is scoped, the work follows each client’s priorities. At CMI Compass, our team automated journal entries, bank reconciliation workflows and fixed asset depreciation, and the company cut its period-end close from more than 10 days to 3 to 5 days. NextFoods brought its close from 4 to 6 weeks to under 2 weeks, with 15 manual workflows automated and weekly reviews run by a dedicated Stratus team.

NetSuite ships two major releases a year, and our team reviews each one against the client accounts we support.

Frequently asked questions about NetSuite consulting services

What does a NetSuite ERP consultant do?

A NetSuite ERP consultant designs and changes how your business runs in NetSuite. Depending on the engagement, that means configuring the account, building integrations and scripts, moving data from older systems, and building the reports your team uses. Functional consultants work with finance and operations on process. Technical consultants handle scripting and integrations. Many engagements need both.

What is NetSuite optimization?

NetSuite optimization is work on an account that is already live, to make it match how the business runs now. It usually starts with a review of configuration, workflows, reports, user access and integrations, followed by a prioritized list of changes. Common changes are automating manual steps in the close and building reports finance can run inside NetSuite.

How can NetSuite consulting improve user adoption without long training programs?

Set NetSuite up around each role first. When forms and dashboards show each person only the fields and records their job needs, the system takes less training to learn. Then train a few key users per department in their own processes so they can answer questions day to day.

What is the difference between an ERP consulting firm and a NetSuite consulting partner?

An ERP consulting firm may work across several ERP platforms and often helps with system selection and wider business consulting. A NetSuite consulting partner works mainly in NetSuite, and many offer ongoing managed services after go-live. If you have already chosen NetSuite, compare firms on NetSuite delivery experience in your industry and on the team that would work on your account.
